Hi guys,
First time poster here! Been feeling really defeated when I found out I was rejected from my hospital’s BPT program when a few pgy2 colleagues/friends managed to get in…I know it’s not a big deal but it really hit me hard as I thought I had a strong(ish) CV. For context, I’m a local grad, pgy2 rmo (I know it seems young but I’m very shattered).
To give an idea, I have a publication in an original article as a second author and have won an awards including a JMO award and one in final year med school for highest mark in a subspeciality. It’s really hard not to compare myself especially in medicine but I do genuinely work really hard and have always had good feedback at end of terms. I know a friend or two who managed to get in are just involved in an audit or two but no publications?
I had feedback from the education dept that my CV was scoring a little less in teaching , whether it be attending or providing teaching. I haven’t had many subspeciality medical terms so I’ve only ever presented an interesting case in ED. I was wondering if there were any courses or anything I can improve so that my CV scores really high for next time around? I am planning to do ALS2 this time and another registrar recommended “teaching on the run” course and I am hoping to work on an audit for next year which I have a meeting with a supervisor for.
I really wanted to be in some sort of training program to direct my learning for next year as an RMO and then step up to reg BPT year 2 :( would it be worth sitting the basic pathology exam to have to strengthen my CV/refresh my med school knowledge now that I have clinical experience (I’m not entirely sure what I want to do but quite interested in medonc, haem, neuro and figured it’d be helpful for most things physician-esque)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
