Helpful & Positive Alternatives to “Have a Safe Flight”

Every once in a while I find myself thinking about the phrase have a safe flight.

Where does the saying come from? Because it often occurs to me how strange it sounds sometimes, especially considering how safe flying is these days. Please tell me I’m not the only one!

So today I’m shaking things up! I’m making a commitment to myself to stop saying “have a safe flight” and instead wish a more cheery journey to my loved ones.

With that said, let’s jump right in!

Bring single use sanitizer and wipes

• These are a game-changer!! I discovered them a few months ago and never leave the house without! These single use packets are so easy to keep in your pocket and you can get 2-3 uses out of each packet.
• As for wipes, don’t sit down without wiping the seat, screen and any other high-touch surface areas. These are the wipes I’ve been using for years — in fact, I keep a pack in my travel bag and suitcase.

Do yourself a favor and get an airplane footrest

• Have you heard of these before? Game changer! I discovered the airplane footrest before an international flight and now refuse to fly without it.

Bring a sleeping kit

• Sometimes the plane is too bright for a good night’s rest, or the noises can keep you up. I suggest picking up a small sleeping kit before your flight — it will make things that much easier.

Noise cancelling headphones are a game changer

• As I mentioned earlier, noises are not uncommon on a plane. If you’d like to distract yourself with pre-downloaded movies and music, you’ll need good noise-cancelling headphones for the flight. Here’s the pair I use — pricey, I know, but worth every penny.

Take Emergen-C with you

• I take this several days before the flight and several days after. As you know, the airport is a germy place! Here’s the classic and the type I use.

Arrive early

• Arrive 2 hours early, at worst, you’ll have time to enjoy a book (with coffee in hand) or scroll through your phone. Better than running through the airport like crazy!

These safe flight wishes are best used for folks that are self-proclaimed nervous fliers. And hey, I get it! Flying is definitely no easy feat for some folks. Approach this concern from a place of compassion and understanding and it will go a long way.
